The House at the end of Summer

The house looked pretty good at the end of the summer. We had reassembled and cleaned most of the old furniture, bought a new bed, hung some blinds, put down some rugs, and cleaned over and over again. These pictures were taken on 9 August, the day we left for the Summer.

We're going for a very eclectic look, as if the house had been continuously inhabited by people who took care of it. So we have furniture from the 20's and 30's, as well as Soviet-era pieces, and things we're adding (like the blinds) that look very contemporary.

The kitchen table has apparently been in the house forever. Everyone seems to remember it sitting exactly where it is now.

This bed was one of several Art-Deco-ish pieces that came with the house. We had to dispose of the original mattress, but used the framing from it to build a platform for a new one.

While it's still a long way from being finished, Paia is at least beginning to look inhabitable again.
