I'm gradually figuring out how to operate the house. It really needs a manual. Lay in your wood supply for the night and following morning during the afternoon. The fire in the big ahi :

needs to be started well before I go to bed and enough wood added later to keep the exterior hot until the sun starts coming up again around 3:00 am. If you light a small fire in the morning as well, the mass of masonry that serves as a heat storage vault stays hot during the day, and a another small fire in the evening will start radiating heat into the room fairly quickly. Let the vault cool off, and it needs a good long time before it warms up again.
